against what is in the interest of the rodney team. maybe they thought that they nominated paul ryan and would be able to take advantage with what they believe to be this massive culturally conservative white working-class cooper voters but it does not seem to be happening. they're making some progress, according to the poll. some progress among white college graduates, but it's not anywhere close to what is needed to take the state. we are not able to sort of most of the state on the face of this ongoing demographic pattern of support. florida is a state that, let's face it, if our romney campaign loses florida they're chances of winning the 2012 collection are close to zero. and right now at this point the obama campaign is running a little bit ahead, by several points according to latest polls. again, if we look at the pattern of support among groups like hispanics, like the pattern of support, the best group for romney to make progress in. we will look at the breakouts. we're not seeing any province being made among these voters. we're not seeing a noticeably bigger margin among

the trajectory of the campaign, his selection of a running mate, paul ryan, got a small bounce. the convention speech didn't get any bounce, and now the first debate. this is like the first night on broadway. there will be more voters tuning in, they will be looking at his performance and if he comes across as somebody who is credible, who is up to the task, he might get another bounce out of it. >> aren't undecided voters the least likely to tune into the debates? gallup looked back at records and found only two examples where debates really changed the course. that was 1960 and 2000. >> they are important moments for these candidates but you're exactly right. it's so hard to change anything at this point. why. these two guys are not unpainted canvases. barack obama, his canvas is pretty much filled in. we know him. we have seen him for four years. as president. mitt romney has been through a long and grueling campaign. there is very little white space left on his canvas. so if they're really going to do something different that changes how they're understood, it has to be something very big.

. paul ryan has been pretty busy, almost nonstop, out on the campaign trail the last couple of days. and so, you know, i think he'll let his surrogates do the talking for him until the debate gets started. one other thing we heard from kevin madden yesterday on the campaign plane heading into denver yesterday, brooke, you heard over the weekend, chris christie saying that this race is going to be turned upside down that romney will have such a strong performance that it is going to be sort of a game changer. i asked kevin madden about that yesterday, and he said he doesn't think that the campaign doesn't think that one event, one moment during these debates is going to decide and determine everything. they just don't see it that way. they like christie's enthusiasm, they say they're feeding off of it, but they don't exactly agree with that assessment. brooke, we're all sort of looking to tomorrow night to be this big moment that is going to change everything and be a make or break moment. it may not turn out that way. it may be a draw. the candidates move on to the next debate and c
